Unique Opportunity Finds NU Students via Alumnus of the Year John Quick
On October 9, 2015, NU held its annual Alumni Chapel to honor past and present students and to introduce the 2015 Alumnus of the Year, John Quick. Quick earned the award for his excellence in the fields of business and entrepreneurship. On hand to introduce Quick was Chairman of the Alumni Board, John Fox. Fox began the introduction with a brief description of the qualifying criteria one must meet in order to receive the award. He stated the criteria as follows:
- Recipients must greatly impact the field they work in.
- Recipients must do amazing things in their field by following Christ and having Him impact the world through them.
Fox closed his introduction with a bold assertion of the purpose that drives Ðǿմ«Ã½, stating that “Ðǿմ«Ã½ is all about taking what you do well, the gifts that God has given you, taking them with you and changing the world.”
To illustrate what it means to live an extraordinary life under the leadership of Christ, John Quick described his own path to God. After a near-death experience in a head-on collision at the age of 16 when, as he puts it, “Jesus literally saved [him],” Quick encountered God, with whom he had no prior relationship.
Quick then asked a challenging question of those in attendance: “What does it mean to do something radical for Jesus now?” He continued, “You don’t have to wait until you graduate to do something radical for Jesus.” Quick then proposed a radical idea of his own to the students of NU by giving them an opportunity to send him an idea for a start-up business any time before November 23, 2015. After that date, he will choose a winner and help them start their business with up to $100,000 in startup costs and six months of consulting.
Quick closed by holding a Q&A session with the students, displaying a willingness to share his knowledge of business and his passion for God.
