Summer Missions Recap: Italy Team
Throughout the year, Ðǿմ«Ã½ mission teams spent time planning and praying to make a difference this summer. Among them was the Italy team. On May 15, the NU Italy mission team embarked on their two-week journey to Rome.
Led by students Brittany Basso and Allyssa Larson, the team partnered with International Christian Fellowship of Rome, an organization dedicated to spreading the Gospel in Italy’s capital city. The Italy mission team was enthusiastic to help in any way possible. In addition to practical duties like painting and manual labor, students coordinated worship workshops, assisted Syrian refugees, and evangelized in the streets of Rome.
Trip leader Brittany Basso has always had a heart for the people of Italy and had been praying about serving there for some time. “Most don’t think of a first-world nation as a mission field; however, financial stability does not equal spiritual prosperity,” she says. “They need Jesus just as much as everyone else.” Through stepping out of their comfort zones, the team learned the importance of being bold for Christ. Brittany’s key takeaway from the experience is that “boldness is not just important while on a mission trip, but in our daily lives. It’s possible to make a difference for Jesus regardless of where you are.”
The Italy mission team took every opportunity to make the most of the experience, not just for themselves, but for those they were there to serve.
