Position Summary
Provide academic advising and student support for new and continuing students in the Traditional Undergraduate program. This is a 12-month, 1.0 FTE position.
Essential Functions
- Provide academic advising for new and undeclared students.
- Provide individual advising and support primarily for students who are in the School of Business, College of Ministry, and Interdisciplinary Studies students.
- Co-teach the Academic Success class with Director.
- Collaborate with Ðǿմ«Ã½ staff, faculty, and the colleges mentioned above to develop programs and support students in retention efforts.
- Provide operational support for all the functions of the Academic Success & Advising Office including running reports, updating advising resource materials, answering the main advising phone line, replying to office email, processing student forms, and proctoring exams in the testing center.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel, databases and creating and editing publications preferred.
- One to three years’ experience with student academic services at the college level preferred.
- Self- motivation and the ability to get along with students, staff and faculty from different cultural, socio-economic and religious backgrounds.
- Ability to listen, to problem- solve, to be creative, to stay calm in potentially volatile situations.
- Detail oriented and able to work with interruptions.
- Computer and Internet literate. Knowledge of basic programs preferred, interest in learning new programs required.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, get along well with co-workers, and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues.
Working Environment
- Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting.
- Some weekend/evening work required.
- Travel, including overnight travel, may be required.
- Position works with strictly confidential information.
- Requires work in outdoor weather conditions, including wet, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
- Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.
Physical Demands
The functions are usually performed while standing, but may involve some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
Compensation
Based on education and experience, the position has a hiring range of $19.00/hour to $20.50/hour plus excellent benefits.
