Master in Teaching (HyFlex)
Many people work for a paycheck and little else. They find themselves going through the motions with little passion for their daily work. Imagine a job where you could shape the next generation—knowing that your life was making a difference. Now, imagine that this could all become a reality in less than one year.
Our Master in Teaching program is designed for those with an undergraduate degree who’d like to get their teaching certificate. In less than one year, you’ll be standing in front of your own classroom—shaping minds, changing lives. And living with passion.

My love for science came from a middle school teacher. I want to be that same example today for my students in the Snohomish County area—to use my research background to inspire in them an appreciation for science.

Top-Rated Teacher Preparation Program
Ðǿմ«Ã½ is one of five schools in Washington state to receive the highest ratings by the National Council on Teacher Quality.
Why Choose Ðǿմ«Ã½
Prepared
Learn from experienced professors, as well as master practitioners teaching in local schools. Hands-on experience in nearby public and private schools will help you build confidence. A master’s degree from NU’s College of Education is highly regarded in the profession and provides candidates with full Washington state teacher certification.
Worker-friendly
The MIT program is designed for people who are working full time. All classes meet at night and on occasional Saturdays. Please note, however, that student teaching will be accomplished during daytime hours.
Effective and Efficient
Graduates will earn the Washington State Residency Teaching Certificate and the Master in Teaching degree simultaneously. This means you’ll begin your career with a master’s degree and—very likely—at the higher salary that accompanies your graduate degree.
The Support of a Cohort
You’ll be part of a supportive cohort of students who will encourage you along the way. Typically a tight bond develops in each cohort during the 11-month program, a bond that continues even after graduation.
The Timing Is Right
Due to a recent Washington court decision, the state has increased the K–16 education budget by over $1 billion. Districts across the state are increasing teacher salaries, professionalizing the field. What does this mean? There is increased funding for new teachers. Our MIT graduates find jobs right out of the program, and you can too.
Affordable
A world-class education is more affordable than you might think. In fact, our tuition is among the most competitive you’ll find. And when the year is over, you won’t just have a new career. You’ll have one with meaning. It’s hard to put a price tag on that.
